I work in the writtten communcation space and if there is one thing that MS does know is typography. In my managed corporate world you cannot get too creative with fonts and sizes due to regulations. Word authoring is key to creating the content used by varous industrial generation tools such as OpenText and GMC.

According to Microsoft program manager Joe Friend, Jr. It is a well thought out font for general use. It also has a more modern look than TNR which was designed back in the ’30s. However, I do think TNR is a more professional looking font and I will use it when I write official letters and documents in my office that are intended to be printed and archived as originals.
The problem with Calibri is that it doesn’t distinguish between a capital “i” and a lowercase “l”, which makes reading some words, like Illinois, an issue. One of the most persistent frustrations legal users have with Microsoft Word fonts is the default font settings. These settings are found in the Design tab introduced into Microsoft Word with version Over on the far right is a drop-down called Fonts.
